common garden pests
There are a number of common pests that can affect your lawn, the most common of which are:
Leatherjackets
These are Crane Fly (daddy long legs) larvae. During the Spring they feed on the roots and stem bases resulting in patches of yellow or brown grasses which are most noticeable during the dry weather in early Summer.

Aerating will help but a specific Nematode should be applied.
Chafer Grubs
These are the grub of the Garden Chafer Beetle. They gnaw away at the grass roots causing dying patches which can be easily pulled away.

They are much less common than Leatherjackets but much more difficult to eradicate. A specific Nematode can be used but there is no guarantee of success especially if the grub is mature (over 1 year).
A proper assessment is required as there are now 5 known types of Chafer Grubs which have varying life cycles and are therefore vulnerable to Nematode treatments at different times of the year. We will assess and make recommendations when visiting your lawn.
