Winter

Winter lawn treatments

Cold season lawn treatments remain a little contentious among green keeping professionals. Recent research is showing that certain Iron products that were previously believed to protect grass by hardening the cell wall of the plant, were actually causing calcium to be stripped from the cell wall, thereby weakening rather than strengthening.

We are currently reviewing the notion and merits of applying anything to the lawn during the Winter months. There is certainly merit in aerating the lawn in the lead up to the cold season months and if the winter is mild, then this can be safely completed before any hard frost, damp or snow.  There might be merit in the application of extra Humates and perhaps chelated Iron to suppress moss further over the cold months. However, we are featuring a new 100% organic fertiliser across Spring to Autumn that we believe will provide sufficient Humates and Iron across the year, prior to the onset of Winter.

We review each lawn throughout the year and as we approach the cold season we will recommend a course of action for each customer as we simultaneously review a variety of options and products and keep our customers informed.
